What is the difference between an electric bike and an electrically assisted bike?

ELECTRIC BIKE CHARACTERISTICS

Electric bikes, also known as speed bikes, can reach speeds of up to 45km/h. On the other hand, Electrically Assisted Bikes, or EAB whose assistance cuts out when 25km/h is reached. Electric bikes can travel at speeds of up to 45km/h without the slightest effort. However, electric bikes are classified as mopeds. They therefore require helmets and gloves, registration, insurance and a ban on using cycle paths.

Characteristics of electrically assisted bicycles

Both types of bike have a motor powered by a rechargeable battery, but their power is not the same. Electrically Assisted Bikes is limited to 250W, while an electric bike has twice that, i.e. 500W. From a legal point of view, the latter is a moped. It is also important to distinguish between an EACB (electrically assisted cargo bike) and an electrically assisted bicycle. The tricycles offered by VUF fall into the category of VCAE (Electrically-assisted cargo bike), with a maximum motor power of 250W and a maximum speed of 25km/h.

What are the advantages of an electrically assisted bike?

As mentioned above, an electrically-assisted bicycle does not fall into the same category (moped) as an electric bicycle. In addition to the different speed and category, an electrically-assisted bicycle differs in particular in the way it works. An electric bike is powered by the push of a button, whereas an EAB is activated by a pedal stroke.

Electric-assist bicycles offer a number of advantages over traditional e-bikes. Here are some of the most important advantages :

Health :

Using an electric bike is good for your health, because you can keep active without getting tired and risking joint problems.

In fact, although electric-assist bikes reduce physical effort, they still offer health benefits. By using an electric bike regularly, you can improve your cardiovascular fitness, strengthen your muscles and burn calories. What's more, cycling can help reduce stress and improve your general well-being.

Versatility

Electric-assist bikes offer great versatility. You can choose the level of electric assistance to suit your needs and physical condition. This allows you to enjoy a personalised riding experience, whether you want to exercise or simply get around quickly and easily.

Simplified traffic :

The electric-assisted bicycle makes it easier to get around town, to work or to go shopping.

What's more, electric bikes are practical for everyone, whatever their age or physical condition. They are suitable for a wide range of users and are versatile for getting around easily.

Respect for the environment :

Finally, electrically-assisted bicycles are seen as a greener alternative to motorised vehicles. They produce fewer carbon emissions and help to reduce atmospheric pollution. By opting for an electrically assisted bicycle, you can help to protect the environment while getting around in a practical and efficient way.

In short, electric-assist bicycles offer an easier and more enjoyable riding experience, while protecting the environment and improving your physical condition. They are versatile, healthy and a practical alternative to motorised vehicles.
